- finish up any late work that was due this past Mon. ( composition, texture, head shots)
- work on completing your self-portrait and post to Flickr…due on Mon.
- review the posts on taking good portraits, work on taking your portraits…at the very least get your portraits set up for the weekend or next week.
- check out the camera sim link just below this post ( it will help you practice with manual functions)
- NEW ASSIGNMENT: This one will be ongoing for a few days…but you could get one pic today. SKY SHOTS (6 shots) of the sky at different times of the day or different days, try to include at least one shot with clouds in it at some point. The idea is to have 5 very different shots of the sky 10 marks. Try not to get anything but sky in each shot.
- spend some time playing in the editors…becoming familiar with Pixlr, Picmonkey, and Photoshop. You can always look up some Photoshop tutorials on you tube to learn more about how to do more complex editing

Week of Mon. Feb 23
NEW Assignment PORTRAITS: 10 male or female one model outdoor shoot on location, 5 in studio using backdrops and lighting, 5 pet portraits. (20 in total and to be put into a slideshow on photo story for viewing) Marks: 20 for portraits, 10 for slideshow presentation. You will have two weeks to complete this assignment.
Criteria: Photos should be flattering, use of different poses and including full body, effective use of lighting.

Friday Feb. 20 week ending
The following assignments are due on Mon.
- 3 Head shots, clear, clean flattering and edited, posted to Flickr in an album (marks 10)
- Written Composition assignment, including 5 photos of different composition elements, describing why your photo fits that element. (marks10)
- Photo Composition assignment, you are to take 5 photos of different elements of composition and make sure you list what compositional element your photo is of. Edit your photos for lighting and cropping....post to Flickr in an album. All photos can go into one album. Just make sure you put a description saying what element of composition your photo is of. (marks 20)
- 3 Texture shots- make sure you take 3 shots that fill the frame and are shot head on, post to Flickr in a set.
- NEW ASSIGNMENT: "the selfie" You are going to take a selfie that reflects who you are and quite possibly your interests. If you set up the shot and have someone else pull the trigger that would be ok. Think about this assignment and try to think about how it could best reflect who you are. (15 marks)

Welcome to Photo 11/12
Reminder you need to get a 4gb or higher jump drive so you can begin taking photos on your own card. Secondly, make sure you have created a Flickr account and you have made me a contact on Flickr.
I am away today, so cameras will not be used, therefore, I am extending the date of the marking of head shots. I will mark them next week.
We have spent a couple of days going over compositional elements in Photography, please review the following links to ensure you have a secure idea of these concepts since knowing this information will be essential for your written assignment and a few of your upcoming photo assignments. At the very least, check out what each link has to say, lots of good information for photographers at ALL levels. This assignment is for ALL students.

TODAY'S PHOTO ASSIGNMENT: You are to choose 5 different compositional elements and find a photo on Flickr or the Internet which acts as an example or representation of that element. In a short sentence under each photo, explain why the photo works to explain that element of composition. To be handed in next week. ( marks10)
NEW PHOTO ASSIGNMENT: Next week, you will be choosing 3 elements of composition and you will go out a shoot examples of the elements that you have chosen. You will post onto Flickr in an album entitled Composition, the photos will be titled by the element of composition you were attempting to duplicate. ( marks 10)
Head shots Assignment: Students are to take 3 head shots that are in focus, have a clean background and are flattering of the subject. They should be edited and posted to Flickr. (marks 10)
Texture Assignment: Students are to shoot three texture shots and each shot should fully fill the frame and be shot straight on. Shots should be loaded onto Flickr and be put in an album entitled texture.
