• 60 1-2 second shots (could be a little longer but you still need 60 shots)

• has movement in the shot
• shots are sequenced well
• video has a beginning, middle and end
• stay true to the theme: Beauty in a minute...a snapshot of little moments in life that are enjoyable, fun, interesting

Today I would like to go through your clips for the final slideshow. Slideshows should be sent by WE transfer or uploaded straight from your phone.

Use the iPhone camera's wide angle for cool pics.

The best part about this picture-taking tip is you can execute it by yourself. For the best outfit pics, use the .5 wide angle option on the iPhone’s back camera. Place your phone down low (can touch the ground), making sure you’re in-frame with some test shots. Once you've found the best perspective, pose by kicking a leg out towards the camera, reach your hand toward it, or lean down to look at the camera lens. Capturing with the wide angle setting adds a level of distortion to your pics for added personality.

Week of May 21

 Watch the video with the entire class. Students should be working on the following:

• any old assignments: pull focus, 10 creative shots written up and handed in at this point ( we presented in class so you will lose a few marks for missing out on the presentation, but it still should be done.), re-creation photo ( still able to get 5 marks) 
• Continue to take and edit portraits and they need to be put into slideshow format for viewing next Mon May 27
• Work on getting video clips for Beauty in a Minute ( 60 video shots needed)
• Determine your idea for your 1 minute video. Day in the Life or a redo on the How to assignment are probably the easiest.
• BEGIN TAKING your 10 creative shots ( light photos, glass balls , phone techniques, specialized editing in Photoshop including; overlays, double exposure, spot colour etc.)
• No one should be leaving class early!

Overlay Assignment in Photoshop. The purpose of this is to try to use Photoshop tools to create an artistic photo. The idea is to combine two or more photos together to do this. At least one photo needs to be yours.

Light Photos ...How to

The best camera settings for light trails photography are:

• Use a tripod
• set the lens to manual and the dial on the camera to M. The Nikon camera can be turned to bulb mode
• Choose the lowest ISO value: 100
• Set your aperture to the sweet spot of your lens, in the f/4 to f/11 range
• Use a shutter speed of between 10-30 seconds, you may need to experiment
• Try to use different light sources: glow sticks, led lights, flashlights, sparklers etc.
• Have the person who is playing with the light try to move slightly, so they are not seen in the shot
• shoot in dark or low light

Portraits Due: Mon May 27

Working with a model of your choice, you should plan to set up a portrait shoot. You will need 20 different shots of one model. Plan to shoot a variety of different shots including but not limited to: a couple of head shots, several full body shots, creative shots using the lcd projector/costumes/props etc. Study other portrait photographer's work and learn how to effectively pose your model.

This assignment is worth 30 marks. 20 marks for your portraits posted to Flickr, and 10 marks for your portraits put into a slideshow, set to music for viewing. If you do not meet the deadline for the slideshow, you will receive a zero for the presentation portion of the assignment.

Tips:

• plan your shots/shoot
• be aware of where the light is ( best times to shoot dawn and dusk)
• choose a good background
• use a prop ( umbrella, hat, scarf, pumpkin etc)
• shoot people in their element ( skateboarder with a skateboard at the skatepark)
• create a rapport with your model and direct the shoot, which means tell the model what you want them to do.

So maybe you can research posing and plan your model and location. If you have done your shoot, you should spend some good quality time editing. If you are doing your portraits at school, find someone to photograph and get busy. There are lots of places to shoot around the school. ( skate park, woods, garage door near the soccer clubhouse, metal storage containers on the soccer fields. )
