New Term 2 Assignments

The following is a list of assignments you should begin working on for term 2.

Theme Shoot: 20 shots your choice based on the theme you choose. Please let the teacher know what theme you have chosen. ( 20 marks)

40 Sec video: You are to shoot and clip together to music 40 shots which capture the essence of beauty in your mind. I have discussed about grouping photos, and we will go over video in more detail.This will be shown in class. (50 marks)

Magazine Cover: 1 shot edited in Photoshop. You might already have this shot from your portraits. The shot should be vertical and should look like a typical cover of your specific magazine. Including: Cover font, bar code and pretend inside articles.  In order to begin working on this assignment you will need to research the magazine you want to reproduce first, then shoot a suitable cover photo, then edit in Photoshop. ( 20 marks)

It is a Plastic World: You need to complete a full description of what you are planning to shoot, this should include a sample photo/drawing of your vision. You need to full described understand  the concept you are hoping to shoot. You will then take the photo, edit in Photoshop and post to Flickr. Please make sure you write a description about the meaning of your photo.

Light Photography: 5 shots experimenting with low light photography ( see separate entry for how to change camera modes to shoot these photos. (10 marks)

Black light Photography: 5 shots experimenting with Black light make-up and creating photos using black light. (10 marks)

Instagram Response: Fully developed opinion based on the Instagram story, posted on this site.
( half to 3/4 page typed) (10 marks)

Term 1 Assignments

The following assignments are due at the end of term #1.

1. Written photo job
2. Flickr set-up ( make Ms Chase a contact, photos in albums and labeled properly, profile photo etc)
3. Selfie portrait ( needs to be edited and focus on what makes you unique)
4. 5 Eye shots (2 needed to be edited)
5. 5 Fall shots
6. Concept map for It is a Plastic World assignment
7. Portrait Slideshow and 20 Portrait shots all with the same model
8. Product shoot ( 10 shots) and 2 ads
9. Self Evaluation: Choose your best photo this term, copy and paste into word then using the elements of composition, tell me why this is your best photo. In addition to this, write down 3 things you learned this term in Photo class. ( 5 marks)

Simply put, composing an image means arranging elements within it in a way that suits the core idea or goal of your work best. Arranging elements can be done by actually moving the objects or subjects. A good example for this case is portrait or still life photography.

***NEW Product Shoot

Product Shoot

PART A: Product shots:10 shots. You are to choose a product to shoot and you are to take 10 different shots of your product. Try to mix it up a little…take shots of people using your product, take inside shots on clean backgrounds, take you product outside to shoot…lots of experimentation. Upload all 10 shots to Flickr under album, PRODUCT SHOOT.

Magazine ad PART B: After you have completed the 10 shots , you are to choose the best 1 or 2 shots and create a magazine ad which will be saved on  Flickr under the product shoot album. Your 2 good ads should be titled FINAL ad #1 and FINAL ad #2.

Criteria for this assignment: PART A: Photos should show experimentation, varied background and evidence of trying to showcase the product at its best. Not all shots have to be perfect, since I am marking your process in this assignment.  ( marks 10) 

PART B: Product should be the focus of the ad, shot is clear, lighting effects work, logo or slogan is included in the ad, and most importantly looks professional…like an ad I would see in a magazine. ( marks 20)

Conceptual Photography

Reminder: Friday Oct. 11 is the deadline for all assignments except for portraits.

Conceptual Photography NEW ASSIGNMENT

Conceptual Photography is when a photograph illustrates an idea.

You will be shooting a photo on the theme: It is a Plastic World. First we will brainstorm ideas around this concept, discuss what conceptual photography is and then come up with an idea to photograph connecting to this theme.

Step #1: Concept Map ( handed in for a mark)
Step #2: Research
Step #3: Full description of your image idea, with a drawing or similar image (handed in for a mark)
Step #4: Take image/consult with teacher/edit
Step #5: Post image to Flickr...and Post onto M:drive chase2020 folder: PLASTIC with your name on the image ex. lchase.jpg

Portraits Due: Mon Oct 28 in a slideshow and on Flickr

Working with a model of your choice, you should plan to set up a portrait shoot. You will need 20 different shots of one model. Plan to shoot a variety of different shots including but not limited to: a couple of head shots, several full body shots, creative shots using the lcd projector/costumes/props etc. Study other portrait photographer's work and learn how to effectively pose your model.

This assignment is worth 30 marks. 20 marks for your portraits posted to Flickr, and 10 marks for your portraits put into a slideshow, set to music for viewing. If you do not meet the deadline for the slideshow, you will receive a zero for the presentation portion of the assignment.

Tips:

• plan your shots/shoot
• be aware of where the light is ( best times to shoot dawn and dusk)
• choose a good background
• use a prop ( umbrella, hat, scarf, pumpkin etc)
• shoot people in their element ( skateboarder with a skateboard at the skatepark)
• create a rapport with your model and direct the shoot, which means tell the model what you want them to do.

So maybe you can research posing and plan your model and location. If you have done your shoot, you should spend some good quality time editing. If you are doing your portraits at school, find someone to photograph and get busy. There are lots of places to shoot around the school. ( skate park, woods, garage door near the soccer clubhouse, metal storage containers on the soccer fields. )

Assignments to date

Do not forget coming up we will be shooting portraits so you want to find a good model. Also we will be completing product shoot, so begin looking for and finding an interesting product to shoot.
The following is a list of your assignments to date and the criteria for these assignments.

Assignment #1: Find a job on the internet that has a skillset that you would likely learn in this class, print out the job description and qualifications and then underline the skills that the job and this course might have in common. Hand in to Ms Chase. Marks: 10 

Assignment #2: Flickr: Create an account on Flickr, change your profile pic and your background photo, make Ms Chase a contact, join the Mark Isfeld Photo Group, and add some followers. Begin posting up your photos and creating albums of your assignments. Marks:10

Assignment #3: Selfie/Portrait: You are to take a few practice shots trying out different looks and techniques ( maybe try: projection, reflection, lens cover, props, black and white, spot colour etc.)Once you have created the shot that you like best, think about what makes you unique, who are you, what is your style, likes/dislikes. Add these ideas of who you are into the self portrait manually or using Photoshop. Marks: 20

Criteria: In your album on Flickr include your final shot. The final shot should involve either manual or Photoshop manipulation, should be well composed, and  define who you are in some way. You will also print out a colour copy to be showcased in the hallway. Include a brief description with your final shot when you post to Flickr describing what you were trying to communicate in the image.

Assignment #4:Eyes: You are to take 5 photos of eyes and make sure that the shots are clear, in focus and interesting. You might think about how you are shooting the eyes, how you might edit them in Photoshop, if you might add make-up to the eyes to enhance the look etc. You should make sure that you have 2 photos that you do some interesting Photoshop edits on.

Marks: 15 

NEW Assignment #5: Fall Shots: As summer draws to an end, the leaves begin to change and the weather gets wetter, fall harvest of vegetables is close at hand and orange pumpkins grace the fields. Your task is to capture the essence of the fall spirit in 5 photographs. Think about composition, focal point and creative shooting.
Marks: 10
