Time is ticking....we are close to the finish line.

Portrait photography is about capturing the essence, personality, identity and attitude of a person utilizing backgrounds, lighting and posing.

Your Assignment: 15  SHOTS. You are to use one model and take 15 different shots of that individual. I would like to see headshots ( close up), half body shots from different angles, full body shots and experimental shots. These are to be put into a slideshow for viewing. Experiment with Black and White, using filters, or even portrait mode on your phones. We will put these into a quick slideshow for viewing on Friday May 27.

This assignment is worth 30 marks. 20 marks for your portraits and 10 marks for your portraits put into a slideshow for viewing.

Tips:

  • plan your shots/shoot
  • be aware of where the light is ( best times to shoot dawn and dusk)
  • choose a good background
  • use a prop
  • shoot people in their element
  • create a rapport with your model and direct the shoot

Working on Magazine Cover

 Magazine Cover Assignment: (Marks 20)

The magazine cover requires you to take a vertical photo that is at a very high quality, and using photoshop you are to create the cover of a magazine. I should be able to look at the cover of your magazine and think it is a real magazine. Please save on the M drive /under chase 2022/ Asem2photo11/12/magazine cover. Also save a copy in your own files. Please     save as a jpg and a Photoshop file in case you need to make any changes.

Criteria: Please try to complete for Friday. We will be moving on to the next assignment on Mon.

  • bar code
  • coordinating colour
  • clear, verticle  photo
  • 3 sets of text with page numbers drawing the reader in
  • text size is appropriate
  • looks visually pleasing and is sized properly
  • looks like a real magazine cover
When finished start to do some research on advertising to get ready for next week's assignment.

Product Shoot

PART A: Product shots:10 shots. You are to choose a product to shoot and you are to take 10 different shots of your product. Try to mix it up a little…take shots of people using your product, take inside shots on clean backgrounds, take you product outside to shoot…lots of experimentation. Upload all 10 shots under a folder called PRODUCT SHOOT.

Magazine ad PART B: After you have completed the 10 shots , you are to choose the best 2 shots and create an ad which will be saved under the product shoot folder. Your 2 good ads should be titled FINAL ad #1 and FINAL ad #2.

Criteria for this assignment: PART A: Photos should show experimentation, varied background and evidence of trying to showcase the product at its best. Not all shots have to be perfect, since I am marking your process in this assignment. However I do not want all shots to look the same.

PART B: Product should be the focus of the ad, shot is clear, lighting effects work, logo or slogan is included in the ad, and most importantly looks professional…like an ad I would see in a magazine.

An intro to composition

Remember it is not your job to go out and find photos, you need to look at things and see potential photos, and if that doesn't work ...go out and create your own photos.
